Welcome to my site! I’m an independent consultant, researcher and developer. I’m passionate about climate change, renewables, and technology, and I love finding new ways to solve the world’s most pressing problems.
I am also Co-founder and CEO of startup Solstice AI. We apply state-of-the-art AI to satellite imagery to identify solar panels and forecast cloud movement. This enables more solar to be integrated into the grid at lower cost.
Most recently I was a senior research scientist at IBM Research (2014-2021), where I worked on reducing the carbon footprint of IBM data centers, renewable energy forecasting, and optimal control of energy storage. Before that, I was a research fellow at the University of Melbourne (2012-2014), where I studied the impact of electric vehicles on the grid, and developed methods to enable large scale EV uptake. And prior to that, I completed my PhD at the University of Oxford, developing new methods for teams of robots to explore unknown environments for search-and-rescue purposes.
I am an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, where I collaborate closely with the Optimisation and Pattern Recognition Group. I’m currently contributing to a new IEEE standard on marginal carbon intensity, and I’m pleased to be one of the TPC Chairs for ACM e-Energy 2022.
Feel free to check out my Publications or Research, or learn a bit more About Me. And please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
